Family Partner & Advocate

About the role
The position of Family Partner & Advocate is a role working within the Early Years Children & Families Unit to support children and families to access services and support. The role will be supporting families who are dealing with trauma, addiction, abuse or other hardships which impact on their day to day functioning. The Family Partner & Advocate will build relationships with families to support them to affect positive change so children and young people can remain safely at home and within the family network.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL:
1. Minimum of a Certificate IV in Community Services, Social Work, Welfare, other related field and/or minimum of two years demonstrated experience in the field
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families and children specifically those who are at risk of entering statutory OOHC.
3. Theoretical and practical skills in the area of case management responsibilities
4. Demonstrated ability to deal with complex issues, work under pressure and meet deadlines
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including interpersonal, report writing, computer literacy, advocacy, community engagement and networking
6. Maintain regular effective and meaningful contact with children, young people and their families.
7. Complete accurate and relevant documentation and records for each family for accountability and reporting
8. Effective conflict resolution skills, negotiation, mediation and decision making skills.
