Our story

Orange Aboriginal Medical Service (OAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO).

Commencing in 2005 in a 3-room clinic, with a handful of staff, over the years OAMS has expanded across five locations within Orange, employing approximately 82 staff. OAMS continues to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of all people and families in the Central West region of NSW.

Timeline

1998 OAMS incorporates under Corporations Act

2005 Started with primary health care in a three-room clinic on Palmer St

2010 Moved to a purpose-built seven-room clinic on Gateway Crescent, providing primary health care, visiting specialists and regional dental services

2014 Expanded to a state-of-the-art building on Perc Griffith Way for regional outreach dental services to Bathurst, Cowra, Forbes and Parkes Aboriginal communities, mums and bub service, training rooms and allied health screening rooms

2018 Transitions to Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 Miyan Wambinya is established to provides NDIS programs and services

2019 Built a new Exercise and Wellbeing centre “Walu-win” at Cameron Place, providing exercise physiology and additional specialist allied health supports

2022 Yiriyirimbang is established to provide out-of-home care programs and services from OAMS original Palmer Street site

2022/2023 Hydrotherapy program pool to be built adjoining existing “Walu-win” facility at Cameron Place, providing exercise physiology, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy
