This is a two year traineeship in which you will obtain an industry relevant qualification while gaining on-the-job experience providing administrative, research, implementation and community engagement support to the Closing the Gap team in Orange.

This is an Identified role under the Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.

Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

You will support the Project Lead by:

  1. Working collaboratively with the team and project consultants to plan, develop, organise, and edit the Closing the Gap Place Based Plan in Orange NSW;
  2. Perform online and on-the-ground primary research under the supervision of the Project Lead;
  3. Engage, under the guidance of the Project Lead, with key internal and external stakeholders related to the plan including community and First Nations groups and Aboriginal communities in Orange and NSW Peak organisations;
  4. Participate in community activities, promotions and presentations;
  5. Administrative functions as required.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Understanding of the importance of working with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals in culturally appropriate ways, including communicating effectively and sensitively with Indigenous peoples;
  2. Willingness to learn organisational and time-management skills;
  3. Ability to learn to prepare draft written content for various audiences, including general correspondence and reports;
  4. Adequate communications skills and the ability to work in a team environment;
  5. Be willing to complete TAFE study within a relevant discipline;
  6. Current Working with Children’s Check;
  7. Current Police Check;
  8. Current drivers licence.
